Week 3 Notes, Homework, and Videos

NOTES ARE MOSTLY THE SAME AS WEEKS 1 AND 2.  HOWEVER, YOU CAN ADD DISTRACTIONS TO THE SEND TO PLACE EXERCISE NOW (PEOPLE AND/OR CHILDREN WALKING AROUND YOUR HOME, DOING IT OUTSIDE AND SO ON).  YOU WANT IT TO BE CHALLENGING FOR HIM BUT NOT OVERWHELMING.

Homework Schedule:

Calming Exercises (Rotate these two exercise on different days ie Monday Sit on The dog, Tuesday Long Place and so On):

  1. Sit on the Dog 30 + minutes Goal:  To get your dog to lay down on their own steam in five minutes or under.

  2. Long Place Build to 30 minutes   Goal:  To get your dog comfortable and more relaxed staying on their place for five minutes.  Week 3 Changes:  Sit closer up to him, but tether leash to something at first.  Later on drop leash and no tether when he stops trying to get off the place.

Obedience Exercises:
  1. Sit with Correction (on the floor)  if Needed  5 + minutes Goal:  To have your dog able do 3 sessions of 4 in a row sits without a verbal or collar correction (meaning you need to give a verbal and/or collar correction when needed. (practice the loose tight loose collar correction) Week 3 change:  Sherlock is now on the floor, and you are practicing the loose tight loose collar correction.Note:  I did not have a good video of Sherlock doing this, so I am putting in a stand in video. (keep your sits inside unlike the video).
  2. Beginning the sit stays 5 + minutes (maybe more like 10 to 15 minutes when you start at lower time)  Goal:  To build still sit stays to a minute (don't worry if you don't get there this week) and be able to do four in a row easily at whatever time you are at.
  3. Send to Place 5 plus minutes Goal:  To get your dog to step on themselves for times in a row for 3 sets.  Week 3 Change: We are now practicing this with some sort of distraction. You could use the outside as a distraction, work him while your grandchildren or husband is around.

  4. Circle Place 5 plus minutes  Goal:  To be able to perform 4 circle places in a row for one minute.  Week 3 Change:  You are circling him now and working towards being able to circle the whole room, while the leash is dropped.

  5. Molded downs 10 minutes  Goal:  To get Sherlock to start sliding his legs out into a down on his own steam.
